I love attending Duke Chapel!

Tonight was the Tenebrae service...worship, singing, sermon, slow diminution of all the lights - then you sit there in silence praying. It was absolutely beautiful.

The formality of the service is oddly comforting.

Good Friday
This was the first year in 5 years that I did not actively give up something for Lent and I really regret it. By the time Ash Wednesday rolled around, I still hadn't thought of something to give up so I just didn't. Now I wish I had tried harder.

Last year I gave up dating and it was VERY difficult. I gave up thinking about members of the opposite sex in a dating context or a "I wonder what that would be like..." context and it worked really really well. I stopped and forced myself to pray when I caught myself thinking about dating/men - then I met Patrick. Of course we met in the middle of Lent... and I honestly didn't remember his name until we met again later. BUT I think Patrick is a prime example of blessings from God. :)

I am very much looking forward to the midnight service tomorrow with Holy Transfiguration and then Easter Service at the Chapel.

Introducing....

Dylan Sophia (Grimm) Kleine

February 14, 2007
6 lbs 10 oz
19 inches long

Apparently she has her father's darker skin... ;-)

When I receive pictures, I'll post on flickr - but knowing April and John, that might be awhile. I can't remember hearing April ever sound so happy. She just has this happy mommy tone of voice. :)

Schatz, are you getting me a floooooower??

No, he got me more than one. :) Lilies. And three roses for Valentine's Day. What a sweetheart!

Germany was, in one word, wonderful. The boy, his family, friends, roommates, atmosphere, etc. All wonderful.

The only significantly negative thing about my trip was all the smoke. I spent most of the two weeks trying to breathe and also smell. Other than that, the trip was great. I posted a few pictures on Flickr. If you want the link, e-mail me. I'll try to post of few on LJ at some later point.

P and I talked tonight and we might get to see each other sooner than August. Please keep your fingers crossed or the situation in prayer (or both). It would be so wonderful to be able to see him in just a few months as opposed to 6. Also, please pray for Patrick's grad school search/applications/what ever the heck you want to call it. He should hear back shortly but right now he is playing the waiting game and that is hard on both of us. If you think about it, send him mental hugs.

In the process of looking back at some recent struggles, I am now able to see part of what (and to some degree, how)God was working in my life. I love the process of recognition - when you start to realize just how those struggles had a purpose and you can begin to associate good with previously negative events. Every time I begin to see good in what could be considered bad, the optimist in me cheers. :) God is so good! (smile)

That's all for now. I'll write more later. *hugs*

Liz showed this to me sometime this past summer while she was teaching stats and then my friend, Brandi - a grad student in stats at UCLA, brought this to my attention again. I'm amused.

Ok, Geoff, here is the long awaited update.... GO INDY!!!!!!!!!

The new lab is wonderful and I look forward to going into work every day. I'm making progress also. Life is good.

Watch out Germany, here I come!!!!! I'm heading to Europe in slightly over a week - woohoo!!!! Meet the parents and friends of my German BF... This is going to be fun. More than anything else, I'm looking forward to being able to hug P. (sigh)

In other news, it is 1:30 in the morning and time for bed. I'll update more later (more regularly than once every 3 weeks).

p.s. April Grimm is due in less than a month!! I'm going to be a Godmother another time over!!!!!!!!

what do you think about "schatzer" for a dog's name? P and I disagree. we're planning on getting a dog when he moves back and i proposed Schatzer. lol, i was vetoed. rather quickly in fact. hehe

i'm amused. we did agree that we don't like human names for dogs though. i think that's a good start.

a guy that at one point was (previously) interested in my roommate recently proposed to his current girlfriend... when i told this to jen here was our conversation:

Jess: Jen, S. proposed to his gf
Jen: Good for him. I'm happy for him.
Jess: You should jump on the bandwagon.
Jen: Marriage is forever, the sooner you get married the longer it lasts.

I'm amused.
